Yes !, I painted my floors !
18 years ago, we put in the most beautiful Indian Slate floors. I loved them for years, but I got tired of all the colour and wanted to change them. The cost to rip out a tile floor and replace it is HUGE. Not an option I wanted to look at.
So I decided to paint them with my most fabulous
Chalky Patina Paint.
So I decided to paint them with my most fabulous
Chalky Patina Paint.
Before |
It started when I found this delicious fabric !
I made new curtains for the breakfast nook.
Well that lead to the floor, and so it began...

Well that lead to the floor, and so it began...
#1 strip the tile-floor sealer, usually just scrubbing them with a strong cleaner will work. Rinse well.
#2 paint the grout
Yes, I painted all the grout lines with a small artist brush - Ugh ! |
#3 Paint the floor (once the grout is dry)
#4 Sand it smooth and reveal some of the natural tile below
I always start with a fine sanding block and increase to medium or coarse, if required, to get the look I want. |
Once I began to sand the Chalky Patina Paint smooth, I began to see the incredible details of the stone tile below. Luv !!! |
Sometimes I use my palm sander, especially on larger jobs like this one. Left side is painted & dry. Right side has been sanded, hence the gray dust on top. |
Left side is sanded smooth and distressed back to the tile below. |
#5 wipe up all the dust
I wipe up all the dust as I go, for minimal mess, using a damp cloth & fresh clean water. |
#6 Seal with tile-floor sealer
After all the dust was removed, I poured a little sealer on the finished floor. Working a section at a time. I used a natural stone floor tile sealer found at Home Harware ! |
I spread the sealer into the grout lines, nooks and crannies with a brush first. |
Then with a high density foam roller to spread it even and quicker. I did 2 coats 1 day apart. |
Before and After |
|
Before above & after is below |
Now I need to change the cabinets - stay tuned - happening this summer !
Before & after |
The floor colour is Vintage Velvet
I have 350 square feet of tile and used only 2 of my 946ml jars !
I did 1 coat of Vintage Velvet & 1 coat on the grout lines as well.
Grout is Antique Slate
I used only 1 of my 120ml jars !
This is my breakfast nook before. I always forget to take the before pic.
Just way to excited to begin painting I guess !

I just LOVE my After !!! So happy with the results.
